All Time Favorite Reads
Lord Of The Rings (J.R.R.Tolkien) - If I had to pick one book that really molded me from a young age, it would be this. It’s actually three books (four if you count the Hobbit). I have read it so many times, and I always get new things from it, even now. Not only did it show what warriors should be, it is about the struggle of good versus evil, something people deny at their peril. There IS right and wrong, and you gotta pick a side.
Starship Troopers One of Robert Heinlein’s best books, the movie did not do it justice at all. In short, it is a story of a future society, and what that society’s idea of service and citizenship are. A great book on the training and molding of a warrior culture, Heinlein’s vision of the future is incredible. A rip roaring read.
Dune - Frank Herbert was a certified genius, and I don’t think there is a better development of a total universe – politics, government, military, religion and ecology – than this masterpiece. Enough said.

Military Books
Chosen Soldier – by Dick Couch -- a former Navy SEAL, Dick goes along with guys in the Q course and gives readers a real glimpse into the kind of guys that do this.
Face of Battle – by John Keegan – One of the best books on war and battle ever written. Period.
Book of 5 Rings – by Myamoto Musashi – For me, the best book on the philosophy of fighting and winning in all aspects of your life. Incredible wisdom.
Gates of Fire – by Stephen Pressfield -- one of the best historical fiction books ever written. A gut wrenching story of the Spartan 300, and the training and lifestyle that made them so great. Most soldiers I know have read and love this book.
Warrior - A Visual History of Fighting
Battle - A Visual Journey 5,000 Years Of Combat
Weapon – A Visual History of Arms and Armor
These 3 books by R.G. Grant et al were given to me by my wife as a Christmas present after I had gotten the pilot for the Warriors series. A beautifully produced trio with great photos that pop off the pages.

Favorite Magazines
1. Soldier of Fortune – A great magazine to get info on all sorts of stuff military. Their terrorism sitreps are really good, and they go places other reporters do not.
2.National Geographic – My Dad had a subscription to this magazine since I can remember, and it is probably responsible for me studying Anthropology. I eagerly read it today.
3. National Review – First class writers who see the world the way I do. I always learn something. I could read Mark Steyn's column "Happy Warrior" everyday if he would write it.
4. Rodale's Scuba Diving – Has excellent training sections as well as no B.S. equipment evaluations.
5. Black Belt – I like reading about martial arts, and it’s cool to check out all the different ones on the planet. I love Dave Lowry’s, “The Karate Way” column. He’s a great author.

My Music Playlist
1. Buckcherry - I don’t understand why Buckcherry are not at the top of the world. A great band with kick ass music, I think Josh Todd is one of the best lead singers I’ve listened to.
2. Foo Fighters- are also one of my favorite groups. EVERY album they put out is killer, and Dave Grohl might have the best scream in music today. A really talented dude.
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers – I think they just keep getting better as they get older.
4. Velvet Revolver – A great combination of G&R and STP
5. DJ Paul Van Dyk – yes, I love hard house and trance.
6. Stain'd / Aaron Lewis
*(Guilty Pleasure - Brittney Spears- Blackout- don't judge)
Old School Fav's
1. Judas Priest – Screaming for Vengeance - Judas Priest was my favorite band growing up, and when I listen to them now, I still feel adrenaline running through my veins. Best voice in Metal, hands down. Rob Halford also had a solo band and there is a song called “Sun” that will always remind me of Iraq.
2. Motley Crue – Shout at The Devil
3. Queensryche – Operation MindCrime
4. Metallica – Master of Puppets
5. Kiss – Alive II
